Covered Porch Options
Different configurations serve different purposes. Here are the main types we build.
Attached Covered Porches
The roof structure connects to your home, typically extending from an existing roofline or attaching to the house wall. Requires proper ledger connection, flashing, and integration with existing drainage. Most common configuration.
Freestanding Covered Structures
Independent roof structure not attached to the house. Supported entirely by posts. Avoids complications of tying into the existing roof but requires more substantial footings and framing. Works well when attachment is impractical.
Gable Roof Porches
Peaked roof with two sloping sides. Provides more headroom and architectural interest. More complex framing than shed roofs. Works well on homes with existing gable rooflines.
Shed Roof Porches
Single sloping roof plane, typically sloping away from the house. Simpler framing and lower cost than gable designs. Common choice when attaching below existing rooflines.
Hip Roof Porches
Roof slopes on all sides. More complex framing. Provides a finished appearance from all angles. Often used on corner porches or freestanding structures.
Ceiling Options
Exposed rafters, tongue-and-groove wood, beadboard, or finished drywall. Each has different appearance, cost, and maintenance characteristics. Ceiling choice significantly affects the porch's character.

Our Process
Here is how we handle covered porch projects.
Phase 1: Consultation
We visit your property to discuss what you want and evaluate your home's construction. We identify how a covered porch would connect to existing structures and note any factors that affect design or cost. This consultation is free.
Phase 2: Design and Proposal
We develop a design and provide a detailed proposal with specifications and pricing. This includes roof style, materials, ceiling treatment, electrical, and any structural requirements.
Phase 3: Permitting

Phase 4: Foundation and Framing

Phase 5: Roofing and Exterior
We install roof sheathing, underlayment, and roofing material. Flashing and connections to the existing roof are completed. Gutters are installed if specified.
Phase 6: Ceiling and Electrical
We install ceiling material, electrical wiring, outlets, lighting, and ceiling fans. Electrical work is inspected before covering.
Phase 7: Finishing
We complete trim, paint, or stain, and final details. We coordinate the final inspection and walk through the project with you.
